Joe McElderry

Joe McElderry was born in Southe Shields, Tyneside, England on 16th June 1991.

He attended Harlton Technology College, before joining South Tyneside College and finally studying performing arts at Newcastle College. Joe was backed by them to win the X Factor.

Many people don’t actually realise that Joe McElderry had auditioned previously for the X Factor in 2007, however felt very young in comparison to the other contestants, so much so that he decided to walk away from the competition at that time.

The X Factor Live Shows

In his audition in Manchester Joe McElderry sang “Dance with My Father”, by the late Luther Vandross. In Marakesh, Morocco he was chosen as one of mentor Cheryl Coles final three, after she and guest judge Will Young decided he should continue to the live shows.

Joe chose the same song in the X Factor final as he did for his initial audition, Luther Vandross’s “Dance With My Father” .

Joe sang “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” with George Micael as his second song.

Joe delivered his third song ” Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word” in top form.

Joe McElderry and Olly Murs became the final two after winning the public vote in the X Factor competiton.

Stacey Solomon gave one of her best perfomances, but still didn’t make the cut for the final.

Joe and Olly both performed “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus in the final show of the X Factor.(see Joe McElderry Video page)

Joe McElderry, sang with almost faultless vocals throughout the final shows. and eventually clinched the coveted £1 million recording contract after winning the series.

Joe McElderry’s first CD ” The Climb” was released after becoming the sixth winner of the X Factor 2009.
The title of the song ” The Climb” is certainly apt for the 18 year old performing arts student from South Shields, Tyne and Wear, as he climbed his way to the winning position.

Joe McElderry
can be seen in the X Factor Live Tour, along with Lloyd Daniels, Jamie Archer, Olly Murs, Danyl Johnson, Lucie Jones, Stacey Solomon, and John & Edward.

X Factor’s live shows will have the acts performing songs from the show, along with classics and their version of ‘You Are Not Alone’ by Michael Jackson.
