Electric Guitar Chords - Start Your Journey To Become A Lead Guitarist
Your first electric chords were probably taught to you by a friend, a book, or a music teacher at the open (head) end of the neck. While knowing how to play in these positions is useful it can be very limiting in determining what songs you can play. The electric was designed to allow easier play of fingering positions higher up the neck. One subset or variety of electric chords is called a barre chord.
As the name (oddly spelled) implies a barre chord requires the guitarist to lay at least one finger flat across the neck of the at one fret position (acting like a temporarily set Capo), with the other fingers left to frame the other notes of the barred electric chords. While it does require the novice player to build up considerable hand strength in order to play these
fingerings cleanly and accurately the lower string height makes electric chords easier to play than acoustic barre chords.
With that in mind we've designed a lesson demonstrating barre style fingerings on the first and second string to introduce the novice player to the more frequently used rock and metal chord fingerings. Players interested in learning other styles will find this lesson useful as well, to the extent that they wish to add the flexibility of these positions to their play.
Other free online lead lessons in the series cover progressions/riffs, note charts (scales), lead notes (theory intro), and metal scales. At the end of the series even the most novice guitarist will have played their first lead solos over their own progression recordings.
