Electric Guitar Lessons - Cool Guitar Tricks That Will Surely Impress Your Friends

When you are taking electric lessons, it cannot be helped that many in your circle of family, friends and acquaintances will be impressed by your daring. After all, the electric is probably one of the more difficult types to learn! Well, there is still room to impress them more once you learn the following cool tricks.

Artificial Harmonics Effect

You can create harmonics by lightly touching the string at specific positions on the neck and then plucking the string. This causes the to give off a bell-like quality to the note due to the simultaneous vibrations of both sections of the string.

To create artificial harmonics on the string being fretted by the left hand, your right hand performs the light touch and the pluck simultaneously, with the position of the light touch at 5 or 4 or 12 frets away from your left hand. Yes, it's a lot to think about but it's something that a few more electric lessons can teach you.

Double Harmonic Trem Drop

This is basically hitting two pinched harmonics simultaneously and then dropping the tremolo bar. Think of it as an in and out phase such that it will sound like one is going off while one is coming back down. Obviously your will need a tremolo bar for this trick.

Horse Effect

Used by guitarists like Steve Vai, you can get horse effects by fretting the natural harmonics at the second, third, fifth, seventh and twelfth frets. Using your tremolo bar, press down on it to make a high pitched whinnying sound.

Dropping the Bar Down E Trick

The great Jimi Hendrix was supposedly the first guitarist to perform this trick. You

can use this with pinch harmonics, which is performed by picking the string and lightly touching it with the thumb and then getting a sort of squealing sound.

Whammy Bar Dive

This trick is somewhat of a staple of electric lessons. You should take a pull off to open the 6th string. Then dive the whammy bar in a deep manner, which should produce a motorcycle-like roar. You must remember to release the whammy bar instantly and then take the bend note. You can learn this trick and many more by taking online electric or beginner lessons

Funky Licks

True to its name, the funky lick has more attitude than other licks. It can be used to either jazz up a funky/fusion style or add contrast to solos. It should break up the monotony of the solo by using chromatic notes and rhythmic displacement.

There are many other tricks that you can learn as you progress in your electric lessons. The trick is, of course, finding the time, determination and inspiration to learn all of them so that you can add more pizzazz to your performances.

Just like any musical instrument, it takes humility to learn more, do more and ask for more. You must acknowledge that when it comes to music, there are many more things, many more tricks and many more trips that you must make even when you are called a virtuoso by other guitarists.

The more you learn during your electric lessons, the more you realize that there are more lessons waiting for you down the road. So, keep learning them and just enjoy the journey.
