There are several different ways to learn the guitar. Hopefully I can help you with your decision. Let's take a look at the different methods that we will be briefly going over: Private Instruction
Class Room Instruction
Learn How To Play The Online Private Instruction Let's take a look at the pros. This I'm sure is what most players try when starting out. This can be very beneficial for the novice player. You have someone there to help you place your fingers in the correct position while having your playing monitored at all times during the lesson; You are also forced to practice since you know you will be seeing your instructor weekly and you better have improved or you're just wasting your money and you have someone there to answer your tough questions. Now let's take a look at some of the cons. With private instruction your lessons are basically outlined by the instructor. This means you will only learn as fast as the instructor's lesson plans. This can be quite frustrating. You see, everyone learns at different speeds. Also, private instruction can be quite expensive. I have not taken lessons from private instruction for over 22 years. But, the cost was $80/hour and I visited once per week for a half hour. The schedule can also be a problem. If you are not using the correct form, then you have just wasted a week not using the correct technique outlined by the instructor. Back to the Drawing Board! Class Room Instruction So what about the pros of class room instruction? Well, the cost. This can possibly be the cheapest method available. I even would go as far as to recommend
it to find out if you really have the heart and desire to learn how to play the guitar. Any more pros? Not really. That's about it. Class Room Instruction can be frustrating. Just like I had mentioned above; every one learns at their own pace and you could find yourself being bored or just plain falling behind without any individual help. Learn How To Play The Online This is where the fun begins. When you learn how to play the online you find yourself working at your own pace. Also, many of the latest online instruction provide weekly face to face video forums with a live instructor. However, I'd have to say the most beneficial part is the ability to pause the video or play it over and over again until you get it right. This is something that just wasn't available to me when I was learning. I feel I could have learned in half the time with this incredible feature. I'd also have to say the cost is outstanding! I mean, when you get this type of professional instruction for as little as $12.95/mo. You can't beat it. Plus, the instruction is always updated with the latest techniques from a multitude of different instructors. This would definitely be the way to go! Well, there are some cons when you learn how to play the online. You are the boss (this can also be a pro) when it comes to your time and learning. If you are not a self starter, I wouldn't recommend this. It might be too easy for you to quit. You may also want to skip ahead when you really needed to practice the same scales and chords for the time being. However, I will say this; for how little the cost, it's certainly the best option available.
