Strings Explained
e, A, D, G, B, and E are the six strings found in most conventional lead and rhythm guitars. The following is a brief explanation of the six strings. To really understand, it is better if you have a with which you can try these out.
e String: 'e' is the thinnest and the first one, and produces the 'e' sound.
B String: This is the second string and is a bit thicker than the 'e' string. It gives out the 'B' sound.
G String: The 'G' string is thicker than the 'B' string and is the third one, giving out the 'G' tune.
D String: The fourth 'D' string is a little thicker than the 'G' string, and produces the 'D' sound.
A String: This 'A' string is the fifth string, which is thicker than the previous one and gives out the 'A' sound.
E String: This is the last string and is the thickest, it gives a base 'E' sound.
Numbers and Symbols Explained
The numbers on the strings in the above diagram denote the frets on which the fingers are supposed to be positioned. 2 denotes the 2nd fret and 3 denotes the 3rd fret. If the number '0' is shown, it tells that you just have to play the string open, meaning you need not place any finger on that particular string.
