Teach Yourself To Play Guitar In 5 Lightning Fast Steps

Want to teach yourself to play guitar? can be a tough instrument to learn without some guidance, but the idea of becoming a self-taught guitarist has vast appeal for many people. It can be a tricky journey, filled with confusion and uncertainty, so I have compiled five steps here that should get you on track.

Teach Yourself To Play Guitar-Step 1-

Get a reliable instrument. One of the main struggling points for many new players is an unreliable guitar. It’s very hard to get a recognisable sound from something that won’t stay in tune and buzzes at every fret. Advances in modern manufacturing technology mean that lower priced guitars are now surprisingly good quality, so it’s never been easier to own a decent guitar.

Teach Yourself To Play Guitar-Step 2-

Learn to tune it. In order to make the kind of music and sounds that people like to hear, you will need to learn to tune your instrument. This can be done a number of ways, using pitch pipes or a tuning fork but the easiest way for a new player is to buy an electronic tuner. You will need to know how to tune manually at some point, but when you are starting out an electronic tuner can save lots of headaches.

Teach Yourself To Play Guitar-Step 3-

Learn some basic chords.

Learn A, C, D, E and G. These are all chords that can be fingered without too much practice, and they feature in thousands of different songs. When learning chords make sure that there are no buzzing frets when you play them and also that each string can ring out clearly without interference from your fretting fingers.

Teach Yourself To Play Guitar-Step 4- Learn some strumming patterns. When you are starting out you can get a surprising amount of mileage from a simple 1-2-3-4 rhythm. Try this out on your new chords, playing each one four times before changing to the next one. This is great practice for step 5...

Teach Yourself To Play Guitar-Step 5- Learn some simple songs. You’ll find that the chords you learned in Step 4 will crop up in thousands of songs, so you are now equipped to play all kinds of things. Buy a basic chord songbook or maybe even get the chords to a few well known songs from the internet, and learn to play a handful of them. Try and beat time with one foot while you play, and this will help develop your sense of time.

There you are, you can now play guitar! There can obviously be a lot more involved when you teach yourself to play guitar, but these five steps will give you the skills necessary to make music and have fun with the instrument.
